New rules for injectables in Australia..
Sadly, AHPRA has created new rules as of last year (Sept 2025) and new rules will also change again this Nov (2026)
Drs and nurses are not allowed to use the words anti-wrinkle and filler which we have been using for ages. We are also the only country in the world with such stringent advertising rules such as no emojis, no labeling ourselves as "lip queen" or "Botox master" (double whammy there with a brand name and a title!) We arn't allowed to call ourselves cosmetic nurses, only registered nurses. I am not sure on Dr's and hope that this is not just targeted at nurses.
We also cannot given prices over the phone or via DM on social media. They want us to encourage a private consultation where all this can be discussed in person.
The goal for them was originally patient care and separating us from the beauty industry.
I feel that there are some rules I appreciate, such as having a year's nursing experience before pursuing injectables. Also that we need to have our nursing registration nice and clear on advertising.
However, I feel that not calling them injectables or having that clear anywhere makes us appear vague and shady to clients.
There are other rules such as always scripting with a Dr, which wasn't a shock to me as I have always done so.
I recently went on a podcast for Brownz Beauty Ink with another RN who practices cosmetic medicine to discuss the new rules. It is frustrating when there are those of us to follow the rules yet so many out there are using the wrong words and potetially risking a $60k fine.
More clients need to know the changes so that those of us who are not listing anti-wrinkle and filler in our menus don't look shady!
So having said all that, please book in a free consultation to see if I can answer any further questions you may have.
